10x10x10x10x10x10x10x10x10x10. That’s kind of hard to read, isn’t it? 10^10 is much more legible. Today is the tenth day of the tenth month. And while 10 may seem like a nice and round number, we don’t actually use it much. Besides some maths and counting with our fingers, of course. A year is 12 months long. A dozen is 12. And a gross consists of twelve twelves. Some mathematicians have been pleading for a counting system based on 12 instead of 10 for years. Maybe that would be very confusing. However, October used to be the 8th month too. Numbers and their meaning can change.
